Community Outreach

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

Community outreach has been an integral part of the philosophy at Hardin Valley Academy.   Hawks Baseball has embraced this philosophy by helping those in the community that need it most. Each year the players, coaches and their families, donate time to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee and The Knoxville News-Sentinel Empty Stocking Fund.

Empty Stocking Fund:

Participating in the Empty Stocking Fund has become a tradition the Hawks Baseball family looks forward to each year. The mission of the News Sentinel Empty Stocking Fund (ESF) is to provide food and toys to disadvantaged East Tennesseans during the holidays. Empty Stocking Fund recipients now receive a 12-pound turkey, 7-pound ham, cranberry sauce and stuffing mix, and enough staples — 45 items in all — to provide for Christmas dinner as well as other meals during the holiday season.Children ages 16 and younger in the household receive a new toy and book.

Second Harvest Food Bank

It is hard to believe that 1 in 6 people in East Tennessee lives in Poverty and has difficulty meeting basic needs. Second Harvest Food Bank is trying to change that statistic in 18 East Tennessee counties. Before the Holiday Season begins, Hawks Baseball targets subdivisions in the Hardin Valley Academy Area for donations to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  First, team members deliver flyers, door to door, with a list of recommended donations and instructions on pickup dates.   On the specified day, team members return to pickup donated items, fill barrels and make the delivery to Second Harvest.
